Samsung LCD TVs

While they may not reach the sales volumes of Sharp’s Aquos LCD TVs, flat panel Samsung LCD TVs are still extremely competitive and popular, and the company offers a complete lineup with a number of different models. An interesting note: most Samsung LCD TVs is that PC inputs are available on almost every LCD model they offer. If you’re interested in multi-tasking, or using your LCD TV as a computer monitor from time to time, PC inputs are handy.

Samsung LCD TVs have similar styling, so aside from screen size they can be hard to tell apart. If you like their sleek styling – great! If you don’t, there aren’t a lot of different options where appearance is concerned. Samsung LCD TVs are typically priced competitively, making them a strong player in the LCD TV market.

Let’s look at a few of the Samsung LCD TV models:

Samsung LT-P45 series: The Samsung LT-P45 LCD TV series is Samsung's set of entry-level LCD TVs. Each is a 4:3 aspect ratio TV – none is a true widescreen TV. The native resolution of each set is different on each model: the 15 inch has a resolution of 1,024 x 768; the 17 inch model has a resolution of 1,280 x 1,024; and the 20 inch model has a resolution of 640 x 480. That’s a little misleading, though: the component video inputs of each accept 480i or 480p signals. They’re great for DVD or standard television, but aren’t made for HDTV.
Samsung LN-R50 series: The Samsung LN-R50 LCD TV series is comparable to the Samsung

LT-P45 LCD TV series, but there are a few important differences. The native resolution of the 20-inch model is higher, at 800x600, so it will display more detail with DVD sources. The design is also different, as the LN-R50 series has speakers mounted on the sides instead of on the bottom. The Samsung LN-R50 LCD TV series is also made up of 4:3 aspect ratio sets.

Samsung LN-R8W series: The Samsung LN-R8W LCD TV series is Samsung's entry-level wide-screen LCD flat-panel offering. Each features a 1,366x768 native resolution, so each can display every detail of 720p content. Connectivity includes an HDMI input, two component-video inputs, and a PC input. Unlike the component-video inputs on the 4:3 models, the ones in this lineup can accept either standard- or high-definition sources.

Samsung LN-R408D: The Samsung LN-R408D LCD TV is a step up compared to the LN-R8W series. It’s a 40 inch LCD TV that also has a built-in ATSC tuner and a CableCard slot, so no external hardware is needed to receiver over-the-air HDTV or digital cable.

Samsung LN-R9D series: The Samsung LN-R9D LCD TV series is Samsung’s premier line of LCD TVs. Each model features 1,366 x 768 native resolution so they can show every detail of 720p material. All models contain a built-in ATSC tuner that allows them to receive over-the-air HDTV without an external tuner. The 40 inch and 46 inch sets have a CableCard slot, which makes it possible to receive digital cable with no external hardware needed. Connectivity includes an HDMI input, a PC input, and two component-video inputs. All models (except the 26 inch Samsung LN-R269D LCD TV) feature a side panel with an additional A/V input.
